Rich, elegant and opulent.

Black Sage Vineyard

this wine

Our inaugural 2011 vintage is rich and elegant with well-balanced fruit and oak characteristics with notes of pineapple, tropical fruit, hints of honey, lemon zest and buttered toast, this opulent Chardonnay has a lingering dry finish.

for you to enjoy

Enjoy with poultry, seafood, pork and rich creamed pastas, but best when shared with friends (new and old). This Chardonnay is ready to drink, but will continue to age gracefully at least through 2013.

from us

The wine was grown in the sandy loam soil of our Sundial Vineyard on the Black Sage Bench in Oliver, located in the southern part of the Okanagan Valley, where we enjoy long hot dates and cool nights.  This wine is 100% Chardonnay, carefully selected at the peak of ripeness and matured in five small French oak casks.

vintage report

The 2010 growing season was more challenging than many, with a late start to the season and a cooler summer than normal. Careful viticulture practices under the direction of our Viticulturist Dick Cleave with cluster thinning and leaf removal, ensured luscious ripe fruit with well-balanced acidity. Picking began on October 2nd for our Chardonnay Clone 76 with its ripe tropical fruit elements. Clone 96 with its refreshing citrus notes, was harvested on October 6. These classic Chardonnay attributes shine through on the nose and palate with the moderate weather imparting on this vintage a refined elegance and excellent food friendliness.
